You are encouraged to drink and drive. Witness the sight that greeted me in a local gas station:

Single bottles iced down for your drinking pleasure. If I'd been bolder, I would have gotten a pic of the sign on the front that essentially said my previous sentence.

When we passed the first drive-thru daquiri shop, there was a line several cars long. It's good to be home.

Merry Drinkmas!

LOL! I lived in Louisiana 6 months and never got used to that! I used to live 5 minutes from a drive-thru daiquiri shop. I laughed every time.

It's one of those things that keeps me coming back! There was a time we used to go out on an evening drive as a family to see the various light displays around town. My dad would always pull into a daquiri place. It's just part of the season...sigh.

Oh, if you ever come to LA you MUST drive-thru if you get the chance. It's truly an experience--even if you're not a fan of frozen daiquiris!

LOL Now you've convinced me! I love frozen daiquiris. It just seems so odd that I can just...drive up. :/ lol

My father is from Louisiana, but he never told me of such wonders. Perhaps if he had, I would have visited much sooner.

A daquiri drive thru? Count me in!

Well, depending on when he left the state, there may not have been such treats to entice him. I think they're most common in the southern half of the state--where the Catholics live...

That is weird!! Over here they annually do adverts to discourage people from drink-driving (and also from texting while driving - which is a new thing this year!)

Oh, you aren't supposed to drink and drive. There's actually a law that governs a driver's possession of open containers of alcohol--which the daiquiri stands circumvent by taping the lid onto the Styrofoam cup, thereby "sealing" the container. If you, the driver, decide to put a straw into the cup (thereby unsealing it), that's your own fault.

It's not a perfect system, I'm afraid!
