Lots of the icky today in the various entertainment newses. 3 shows I actually like that aren't part of the Law & Order franchise or animated are either definitely or likely to be canceled. I guess it's inevitable--I'll always gravitate toward a show with an interesting premise and it will either become absolutely unwatchable crap (Heroes, I'm looking at you) or it will be deemed not commercially viable and go up on the chopping block (like my darling Pushing Daisies, Life on Mars, and *sobs* My Own Worst Enemy).

I'm old enough to be hardened to this all, but really? I just want to throw a tiny temper tantrum over this one.

Oh no, you are not whinging, that is righteous indignation.

American TV drives me nuts! I pretty much avoid watching any network stuff because they yank it off the air so quickly, at least on cable they give their shows a chance to find an audience.

I'm was surprised that Pushing Daisies lasted as long as it has because it's so clever and I can usually rely on networks to ax anything I really enjoy. It's a pity about Life on Mars since I was just starting to warm to it myself :-(

I bet they replace these shows with some reality tripe called America's Pets Have Got Talent Grrrr!

This--yes! Last night I was flipping channels and came across Sanctuary, this new SciFi channel show which I have marginal hopes for. It's sort of a Torchwood-with-mutants thing and it's still establishing its mythology, so the eps are still really setup-heavy, but I could see it really developing with time and investment into something neat. Networks are awful at doing that with a show...

I must admit to a similar feeling about PD--I think the writer's strike actually helped that show survive to another season. LoM was doomed from the start; PD's playful lightness would help some peeps get over the kinda-squicky underlying premise (which was really, I think, risky for that timeslot), but LoM bases on gloomy/strange then washes in hazy gold and that's not going to pull people away from ER (which really needs to end).

But America's Pets DO have talent and the American people must be allowed to find the most worthy! /sarcasm.

I'm going to visit with John and Martha now. They bring the happy.

I hope you enjoy Sanctuary; like I said, I've got only marginal hopes for it. I think they need a better budget...

Time with John and Martha is always well spent and we had a lovely afternoon.
