I wanted it so badly, but I've been able to shove that want aside, telling myself that it wasn't right yet, that I could wait, that something better would be around the bend.

And then they went and improved it. *cries*

Do I need it? No, of course not. But want is a mighty strong motivator. I suppose I could start trawling eBay to see if I can get a good deal on a first-gen model, but I want the new hawtness.

/whine

Ordered some yarn from KnitPicks recently to test out their sock offerings. These are earmarked for gifts--love the colors, feel great in the skein/ball, will let you know how they knit up.

First, Gloss (70% merino, 30% silk). I think I want to make a cardigan from this stuff. These two will be transformed into a hat.

Next, Essentials (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon--kettle dyed). For socks. I &hearts the color gradation.

I know--pictures of yarn aren't very exciting. I just needed to remind myself that I actually do knit and that I'm halfway done with my coughchristmasknittingcough.

I'll spare you photos of the needles I purchased; I thought I'd try out a pair of their Addi Turbo knockoffs. I'm going to take them out for a spin this weekend and will let you know how they work (I think there might be 3 people on my f-list who know what I'm talking about. I'm cool with that). KnitPicks is old news in the knitting world, but I haven't tried out these items yet, so I'm excited to see how they work out.

And that's all the geekery for today. Now to read some stuff and comment on it.

What kind of stuff do you knit? That blue is really pretty!

I can knit pretty much anything knit-able, but these days I mainly do socks, sweaters, hats, and scarves. I love lace, cables, and fair isle, enjoy knitting a good felting project (but not, for some odd reason, the felting, which I will gladly leave to [livejournal.com profile] autifon), and think knitting dishcloths is one of the most relaxing ways to spend a summer afternoon.

tl;dr--I knit it all and love it.

Do you knit?

The blues are gorgeous--even better in person, actually, since those are crappy iPhone pictures--and I'm seriously considering getting enough Gloss to knit a cardi or, if I'm feeling REALLY ambitious, a twinset.

No I don't; I get frustrated to easily. LOL. I wouldn't mind learning, but as I said, once I get frustrated, forget it.

Lace is a nice fabric; you can never go wrong with lace, I think. I've just been going to fabric stores to find something CLOSE to the brown suit the Doctor wears. I have yet to find some...

I seem to recall seeing something on who_daily a while back about someone who found brown fabric--I think it was a post in the cosplay comm. And that was probably less than helpful--sorry!

Lace is gorgeous, but knitting it on the yarn that makes for pretty and delicate fabric can be v. trying; I haven't been able to do a true lace project in quite a while because I don't have the time to work with the intricate charts. One of my favorite things I've made is this shawl (http://www.anitaderouen.net/photos/personal/Christmas2004/momshawl2.jpg), which is trying to swallow my poor mom...

The employees said to check in the Fall, which is a while from now. Blah. I'd wear that brown suit to work though..

For me, yarn, lace...whatever, would be hard for me to do. I'm better with computers than I am with actually making something with my hands. Although, I've seen on eBay that people have made Doctor Who characters with yarn, which I've been dying to get my hands on.

*Edit: That shawl is incredibly pretty BTW!

You want the new Kindle, and I want the Blackberry flip phone. Let's make a pact. I won't buy the Blackberry if you won't by the Kindle, lol!

On the Kindle, I hear you, and am in much the same spot. I waited patiently for the iPod to get hawt and cheap enough to justify splurging on it, and I'm just barely able to keep myself from getting the Kindle RIGHT NOW. Also, I'm a little terrified of how much money I would spend with the convenience of downloading books at any time *shudders in ecstasy*. I'd be better off in Vegas!

It is a sexy, sexy machine. I don't know how I'm living without it!

There was a mad frenzy to knit Adipose a while back--too cute!

Thanks about the shawl--was the first big piece of lace I did.

The Kindle plays music files and audible books. If it made phone calls, kept my calendar, took photos, and let me send email and text messages, it would be the perfect device.

You know that device is coming, right? Someday...

I saw some of those. Someone did 2 dolls; one of Ten and one of Five when Time Crash came out.

That shawl look like it took a long time to do.

Eh, it's an electronic device for reading books - I MUCH prefer the more easily portable, needs no batteries version! :P

Still if you want it, you want it. We all have our irrational desires!

Indeed... What's logic got to do with it?
