Strange Signs

My brother-in-law and I saw this one as we were driving to the anniversary party last weekend. I'm still trying to sort it out.

What, exactly, makes the difference between a speed "bump" and a speed "lump"? My car was unable to discern any distinctions as I flew right over them as I always do.

I think I know what happened!

The speed "lump" was obviously the work of a master craftsman of the asphalt medium. He must have looked at his handywork saw that it was inadequate as a bump as it was obviously more lump-like in nature, and was compelled (thanks to his artistic mores) to be truthful. What choice did he have? Just as Michaelagelo freed his figures from marble so too did this master craftsman obey the asphalt to reveal a lump ;-)

Hence: Speed Lump :-)

OK--the icon alone is killing me!

I want to believe that Louisiana has engendered an entire breed of asphalt artisans because, really, the ground sinks so often that they're constantly out there re-finishing the roads...
