"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is on television right now.
The cable company's music channels have started playing Christmas music.
I won't tell you what's happening in the stores, because I don't really have to, do I?

I haven't even thought about a turkey yet, and the Grinch is on? Every year I feel less and less inclined to even celebrate the holiday (outside of actually spending time with family and friends) because it's shoved down my throat so early.

I think there should be a law that you can't start in on a holiday before you are done with the one preceding it. Therefore, no Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving.

You should meet my friend [livejournal.com profile] birdofparadox, who lives in Jackson. You will appreciate each other's nerdliness :D

Yeah, when I was searching for Halloween stuff in the beginning of October, they already had an aisle of X-Mas stuff - sickening. Although, I must say that I'm almost done with my shopping because as I think you know, shopping after Turkey Day SUCKS and is impossible!

I could get behind such a law...

Good to see you on the LJ!

Oh, I can't remember the last time I actually went shopping on any weekend day during the Tgiving-Christmas season. I worked in a mall for a couple of years and it pretty much ruined the entire mystique of Christmas shopping for me. These days, I'm all about Wednesday night (in the South that's a big church night for some denominations, so stores can be a bit emptier) or online shopping.

I used to work in the mall for a couple of years myself, and it was a pain in the ass. Black Friday was the absolute worst because of all the sales they were having. Parking is horrendous, the people are mean (mostly old people and church people), and trying to get lunch was also a pain in the ass. That is exactly why I'm doing my shopping now instead of after Turkey Day.

I swear you're my brain twin. lol I said almost the same exact thing yesterday when I was in the car with hubby and baby. We were sitting at a stop light and I looked around me and there were Christmas lights everywhere.
Geez.
I also said that b/c it gets started so early, by the time it's here everyone just wants it over. What happened to savoring a moment when it comes?

This is pretty much it--there's just too much of it and then it gets here and it's just sort of 'eh?'

I'm surprised that you saw Christmas lights out this early, though; I usually only expect to see those after Thanksgiving. I'll have to keep an eye out...

We've had Xmas stuff in the shops since AUGUST!!

I always point blank refuse to have anything to do with Xmas until I've at least had my birthday - early November is quite soon enough thank you very much! (It makes me feel Grinch-y!)

UGH--your post reminded me that I wrote something the last time I was in the mall after seeing a Christmas shop, which was early September. I don't spend much time in the shops--Steve does most of our shopping--so I've been saved from much of that annoyance, but still...

Thanksgiving here is the start for me and Epiphany marks the end--of course, then it's Mardi Gras time, which is an entirely different sort of fun.

Hmm...I wonder if Ten/Martha might fancy a trip to New Orleans for the carnival season?

I don't really mind seeing Christmas stuff in November but seeing it in October or even September...worries me!

Plus have you seen commercials for COUNTDOWN to the Christmas COUNTDOWN on ABC Family? That has to be the most pointless thing ever.

Um, no, I haven't. I'm dying laughing right now at the thought of it--how very meta!
