While out doing a spot of Black Friday shopping, I browsed the stationery section of the local Marshalls. I like paper, especially stationers' pretties that just beg for the touch of a nib and some velvety ink.

On a shelf about mid-way down the display, amidst the usual floral thank yous and invitations, I found these gems.

Image of notecards with cutouts that say L O L and T H X

I want to write a screed about the horrid state of contemporary social communications. I want to shake a finger at my students to say "this coil is long of you."* I want to scream and shout and rend my garments at this death knell for polite correspondence.

But really, I can only laugh at myself and my hypocrisy. I haven't sent a proper thank you card in years. Perhaps sending one in netspeak is better than not sending one at all, y/y?

*100 points to Ravenclaw if you can name the reference.

I've actually just finished the blurb of text that goes along with; I had to post the pic from my phone...

Oh the quotation's from Shakespeare - A Midsummer Night's Dream!

ETA: Do I get bonus points for knowing it's Act III Scene II?

Heh. This makes me want to translate Midsummer Night's Dream into a AIM log conversation.

LOL--would be quite the project and would certainly amuse! I think, though, that given all the wanderings, the text idiom would be the more likely choice!

Something is generally better than nothing... I like that this may get people to write. Cute!

The notecards were definitely cute; if they'd been a different color scheme, they might have come home with me! And yes, something is better than nothing in this case. Now to write some thank you notes...
